Many people are proclaiming the benefits of using castor oil for wrinkles and hair but is there any truth on it?
Believed to have been patronized by ancient Egyptians, who just to use it to achieve lustrous hair, castor oil is derived from the seeds or beans of the castor plant.
The Egyptians discovered its laxative, purgative and softening characteristics.
Characteristically, castor oil is odorless and tasteless, making it ideally suited as a base material for preparing many health and beauty care products.
However, it also contains very toxic constituents, restricting its use for external application only for skin and hair-care products.
Castor oil is very popular as a natural therapy and it is said to have many valuable benefits as well as medicinal properties, which make it very effective for healing the body.
It’s an excellent material for having beautiful youthful skin and healthy hair and can safely be used for the purpose without any fear of side effects.
Here are the beneficial properties of this natural oil.
Before using this oil please be aware that is thick and with a strong odor which it might be a problem for some people who are more sensitive to smells.
If this is your problem or you simply want to make the oil thinner, just dilute it with another oil.
Good choices are olive, avocado, Emu or coconut oils.
Also if you are going to use it on your hair remember that it will work better when use continuously, but since this oil is thick it will take 2 or 3 hair washes to get rid of it, depending on your hair's length.
You need to plan accordingly.
A note about castor oil for wrinkles and hair
There is no scientific evidence that castor oil benefits hair or skin wrinkles.
The information below is based on the feedback of consumers who have found the application of this oil beneficial in one way or another.
The only thing you can do is try and see if it works for you.
Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid that is known to help prevent acne causing bacteria and viruses, as it can deeply penetrate skin tissues.
This is how to use it for treating acne:
Take a hot and damp washcloth and dab it all over your face before going to bed. This helps to open the pores of your skin.
Next, you gently massage a little of castor oil so that it gets absorbed by the skin. Leave it be there for the night.
You should follow the same routine for two to three weeks and see results. You may even do it twice a day, once in the morning and again at night.
This oil can characteristically penetrate deeper into the skin, compared to any other vegetable oil.
Castor oil can be used for face wrinkles too.
This property of oil is ideally suited for having a fresh and young-looking skin.
It is said that Castor oil is more effective than any commercially produced anti-aging cream, but of course that is a matter of opinion.
Castor oil for wrinkles around the eyes
A very convenient way of using castor oil for wrinkles around the eyes is to apply a small quantity in the area before you retire for the night and wash it off the following morning.
You may even rub it around your face, but apply a very thin layer, as it’s very thick and therefore, sticky too. A little of this suffices the purpose.
You may allow it to remain there for as long as you feel comfortable, before rinsing your face.
As you can understand, its application is not really comfortable when the weather is hot or humid, but you can surely use it in winter.
A regular application of this oil makes your skin look fresh and supple and can help to make wrinkles less obvious. Using continuously, pales the old dark spots left by pimples.
This wonderful oil is also useful for your hair. Its application on hair tips will eliminate dryness of hair and reduce hair with split ends.
Further, it strengthens hair and thus prevents their breaking easily and stops split hair from appearing. It helps moisturize the scalp by penetrating deeper to give you shining and silky-smooth hair.
With the growth of hair and trimming of damaged ends, you’ll find that the growth of split hair is considerably reduced and disappears finally.
Although most doctors agree that castor oil for hair growth is a myth, many people are using it with some degree of success.
It is said that this oil can aid regrow hair because it helps to accelerate keratin production.
Jamaican black castor oil is the preferred choice for this purpose and it is also used to obtain shiny, smooth and bouncy hair. Try Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo & Conditioner from Shea Moisture.
Again most doctors disagree with this, but many people report that after applying castor oil on their eyelashes every night they were stronger, longer or thicker and the eyebrows were fuller.
If you are going to apply it to the eyelashes be very careful with your eyes because if it can burn them.
Use a tiny amount on the upper eyelashes. You can be more generous when applying to the eyebrows, but again proceed with caution.
It is said that castor oil is good for skin lightening.
If you want to remove dark spots, blemishes and pigmentation try to incorporate castor facial masks into your skin care routine.
Regularly add castor oil to homemade masks.
