Why does the skin age?
Aging skin is a process that all of us have to face sooner or later. Some people have no problem with it and chose to grow old gracefully. Others make a big deal and go to extreme lengths to avoid the decadence of the skin.
Personally I think that the best approach is a sensible approach; take care of your appearance but don't obsess about it. Having the right knowledge about aging and the skin is an invaluable tool that will help you make informed decisions, when and if you decide that you don't want to grow old gracefully after all.
Most probably you know by now that no one can avoid the skin aging process and if someone tells you differently, is simply not true.
As we get older the body and the skin experience a number of natural changes that are known as skin aging signs.
These changes are due to two aging types:
Is inevitable and is determined by our genetic disposition. It is also known as "the natural aging skin process" where the collagen, a protein that supports the skin slows down and the elastin, a substance that gives the skin its structure, is reduced. There is a slower cell turnover and loss of moisture, making the skin dryer.
Intrinsic aging produces these changes in the skin: fine lines and wrinkles, skin becomes thinner, there is a loss of underlying fat, loss of elasticity and firmness, and as a consequence we experience sagging skin and loss of bone density in the face.
The other type of aging skin is called:
Starts very early in life and is caused by a number of external factors, that make the epidermis age prematurely. The main factor is sun exposure or photo-aging, which counts for 90% of premature skin aging.
As well as bad habits like:
Although intrinsic aging is inevitable, only counts for 10 or 20%, while extrinsic aging is most preventable, so the sooner we start taking good care of our skin to slow down the signs of aging skin, the better will be.
You might notice that some people age better than others and this has a lot to do with having inherited good genes, but remember that you can prevent premature aging, and that no matter your age you can take the necessary steps to obtain a younger looking skin.

1. Consume Anti Aging Foods
A great and healthy way to diminish or delay aging skin is by consuming antioxidant foods. Why are antioxidant foods effective to slow the skin aging process? Because antioxidants help to counteract free radical attacks, saving healthy cells from being damaged.
Anti aging foods are also effective to protect the organism from diseases like heart conditions, diabetes and strokes. They also help to lower cholesterol, protect eyesight and strengthen the bones.
The foods that we all should be eating in order to help the skin look younger and the body better protected from certain health conditions include green leafy vegetables, fruits and veggies with bright colors, oily fish, nuts, seeds, whole grains, pulses and foods high in calcium such as yogurts and milk.
Green tea is full of antioxidants, is often used to elaborate anti aging skin care products and it has been proved to help to speed up the metabolism.
Red wine contains resveratrol which is said to be good to slow down the aging process and prevent several diseases like cancer and heart conditions.
If you want to follow a healthy diet to improve your skin and health is really a matter of common sense, you know the things that are good for you. When choosing your food just think healthy and you can't go wrong.

Exercising the facial muscles underneath the skin helps to tone them up and keep the skin looking younger for longer. Facial exercises have other benefits such as boosting blood circulation, oxygenating the skin and rejuvenating the neck. Some people experience better results than others and I believe this is to do with practicing the exercises religiously and having an effective technique. Following a good exercise program where you know what you are doing will yield better and faster results. Try Facial Magic by Cynthia Rowland or read my review about this program here.
