Do Facial Exercises Work to Reduce Wrinkles and Sagging Skin?
Do facial exercises work or make your wrinkles worse? There is plenty of information about face exercises, but is there any scientific evidence that exercises for the face are really effective? No, as far as I know all we have is the testimonials of many people who believe they work.
The theory behind is that contracting and relaxing the facial muscles will improve muscle tone and thus the face will be more defined and relaxed.
It makes sense to think that if we exercise the muscles in our bodies to tone them up, the same will happen for the muscles in our faces.
Some people will argue with that, saying that the muscles in the face are smaller and don't respond to movement in the same way as the larger muscles in the body.
I'm not pretending to be an expert and I can only talk for personal experience. I have my own theory and it works for me.
I have been doing these exercises for years and I can honestly say that they help my face to look tighter, but with some exceptions.
How to Do Facial Yoga
If you want to avoid creases and wrinkles when performing facial exercises you need to stretch the skin with your hands and work the muscles underneath.
If facial expressions give us fine lines and wrinkles over time, the same could happen with the exercises in which you have to adopt a wrinkled expression.
At first, you should start with a few repetitions, and as you get used to and the facial muscles become stronger, increase the repetitions. The goal is to perform a minimum of repetitions until the facial muscles tired.
This is only my personal experience as the results when performing a face exercise program can vary from person to person. For me, facial exercises form part of my daily skin care routine and I practice them twice a day. You need to be constant to get all the benefits of facial exercises. If you are consistent I'm sure you will soon see great results!
I'm a follower of Cynthia Rowland and her facial exercise program. This program is really effective and one of the best I have ever tried. If you are ready to prevent, delay & reduce wrinkles as well as sagging skin check Facial Magic.
Have a look a this video by Cynthia
Rowland teaching how to perform face exercises. You only need to look at
her face to see the benefits of these exercises.
If you don't have access to the seminar the best next thing is to learn the exercises through her program.

You could even practice them when watching television, listening to music or preparing dinner once you get used to.
Remember that if you are constant and perform the exercises in the right way you will see results, maybe not immediately, but don’t forget that this is a longer and cheaper investment for your face.
1- Reduce forehead wrinkles
Place the index fingers just above the eyebrows. Pull the skin down with your fingers, making sure that there is not creases between the eyes. Raise the eyebrows while pressing down with the fingers, opposing to the movement. Repeat thirty times, then relax and repeat twice more.
2. Get rid of a double chin!
Relax the shoulders and raise your chin. Place your closed hand underneath your chin. In this position move the chin muscles forward, hold it and count until ten. Relax and repeat ten times.
3- Get more cheek!
Open your mouth forming a long “O” making sure that there is not lines (wrinkles) from the nose to the mouth. In this position try to smile with the corners of the mouth, towards the cheeks. Is just a small movement to work the muscles underneath the cheeks. If necessary place your fingers over the lines from the nose to the mouth to smooth them over.
4- Eye exercise for eye bags
With your head straight and looking ahead squint with your upper eyelid thirty times. The rest of the face must remain still. Now with the head in the same position look down, towards the floor and raise your upper eyelids for another thirty times. Relax and repeat twice more.
5- Lift your eyelids
Place your middle fingers underneath your eyebrows and push them as high as you can with your fingertips. Now in this position and with your forehead muscles begin to push down to create resistance. Hold for 5 seconds and release. Relax and repeat the exercise 5 times.
This last exercise is from my favorite facial exercise program called facial magic. It does really help you to tone those facial muscles and lift the skin. The only requisite to see results is that you stick with it and don't give up after one week. To find out more about this great face exercise program click here.

I Reckon So, Facial Exercises
by loops (nz)
I reckon facial exercises have to, as there are muscles in your face and if you look at parts of your body that have become flabby and no longer toned they do not look so good any more, but once a toning regime takes place the body is transformed so surely it must work the same for the face???

Fed Up with Face Exercises
by Maria (UK)
I'm trying to get rid of my wrinkles with face exercises, but after practice them for about two months I'm about to give up. I'm 41 years old and after reading the positive feedback that people leave in some forums I thought to give facial exercises a go, but after two months I'm fed up that I don't see any improvements on my face.
How long do you supposed to do these exercises for? I was thinking that I will see a difference by now, but nothing has happened yet. Maybe they don't work for every body but at least I know now that I'm not going to waste more of my precious time doing facial exercises.

Don't give up yet by: Carol
I think two months is not enough time to know if facial exercises work for you. As many experts say you should give it the least one year, and maybe after that time you will see some results, don't give up just yet. I'm doing myself some exercises too, but I know I have to be persistent if I want to see results, so give it more time.
Face exercises make you look older instead of younger?
by Randy Foxman (Manchester )
I had been doing these face exercises for 2.5 years now and I have noticed that my wrinkles have gotten deeper around my mouth and skin is sagging like an old man, I am only 21 years old for god sake I LOOK LIKE A 40 YEAR OLD and before these I had such a youthful face.
Now that I have stopped these stupid face mess up exercises I am starting to get back normal hopefully VERY SLOWLY! When you do face exercises your skin elasticity breaks so it lets your skin go (making it sag) and also your wrinkles will get deeper than they already were.
Type in on youtube '' Effects of Facial Exercises on Your Skin DermTV.com Epi #82 '' and the doctor will explain it all in simple ways.
The Trick With Facial Exercises by: Webmaster
I agree that facial exercises could, if not performed with care, increase the depth of your wrinkles. The trick is to stretch the skin with your fingers while performing the exercises and work the underlying muscles. This works very well for me and many others.

Begin With One Exercise, And See The Results
by Linda King (Barton, Canada)
At 59, with my darling husband
Twenty years ago, one of my eyelids began to sag downwards. It's a family trait, but I wasn't happy, looking like an ironic tortoise. I seriously considered plastic surgery, but while I was contemplating having my eyelid heaved back up, I stumbled across an article about facial exercises in a national newspaper.
The article specifically mentioned a facial exercise book, and also gave a sample exercise for sagging eyelids. Well, what did I have to lose? I tried the exercise each day for a month, and miraculously, my eyelid strengthened and returned to normal. (I will add here that I try to remember to do the eyelid exercise every day. If I do forget for several days, my eyelid will begin to descend, again.)
Well, after the successful experiment, I bought the book and began to incorporate the remainder of the exercises, one by one, into my daily routine. It has to be one of the best things I ever did for myself.
I am now 62 years old, slim but with plump cheeks, a firm jaw, and very few wrinkles. Most people, including doctors, are usually taken aback when told how old I am. I married a man 8 years younger than myself 3 years ago, and I'm including a totally unretouched picture of the two of us after our wedding.
I've never had any kind of plastic surgery, Botox, fillers, peels or any other facial enhancement. I simply do a set of facial exercises every day or so, a quick procedure that takes me less than 5 minutes. This investment in time over 20 years has cost me nothing, but brought me invaluable returns. My only regret is that I wish I could thank the unknown author of that original article for the knowledge she so kindly gave me.
